Frequently Asked Question on how to grow Beetroot at home and balcony.
1. How to germinate Beetroot seeds?
1. Should we soak the Beetroot seeds overnight for better germination?
No need to soak the seeds in water. Directly we can sow the seeds. But we should keep the seeds moist during the germination.
2. Should we use the seedling tray or Direct sow is recommended for Beetroot seeds?
Seedling tray is a best practice because due to heavy rain sometimes there are chances of losing the seeds. So if it is in the tray we will be able to shift it soon. After reaching 2 to 3 inches in length then we can transplant into the pot or direct to the land.
3. What is the best season?
Beetroots are winter season crop. It requires cool weather to grow. It germinates faster in the winter season because this plant needs a lot of moisture.
4. WILL IT GERMINATE IN ALL SEASONS?
Beetroot seeds can available in all the season also germinate any season. But they grow well in cool conditions.
5. How many days will it take to germinate?
It will take 2 weeks to germinate the sprout. During this time, it requires water and potting mix properly to grow as a healthy plant.
6. Can we keep it indoor after sowing or we should keep it outdoor?
Beetroots may be cool weather crop but it need at least 2 to 3 hours sunlight every day. So better to place it outdoor or else we have to place it where it can get sunlight properly.
7. Which container is suitable? Rectangular, round?
As we recommended round container is comfortable to grow it. Beetroots requires more space grow the root. rectangular pot with at least 6-inch depth is required.
8. What temperature is required?
Beetroot requires nearly 10°C - 23°C temperatures. In this temperature beetroot grows well.
3. How to water Beetroot plants?
1. Does it need a lot of water or very less water?
In rainy season most all plants does not take more water. it requires less watering to grow.
We suggest watering like Summer: Water 3 days once. Winter: 5 to 6 days once. Rainy: No need in case rainwater directly flowing to the plant. Otherwise 15 days once. This suggestion is with assumption that you use coco peat based potting mix.
2. What potting mix to use?
1. Will the coco peat base potting mix be sufficient or does it need soil only?
No need to invest for any other compost or the fertilizer if you are using our potting mix, Our potting mix has fertilizer and compost in it. So it makes roots strong and makes plant healthy.
However, beets also survive well in normal soil. We recommend a cocopeat based potting mix.
3. How to water Beetroot plants?
1. Does it need a lot of water or very less water?
In rainy season most all plants does not take more water. it requires less watering to grow.
We suggest watering like

2. Will it sustain high sunlight?
No need to worry about sunlight. Because it’s germination and complete growing process under the soil. So it can sustain from the high sunlight.
3. Does it grow indoor in a shade or less sun?
Beetroots can grow either indoor or outdoor. Beetroot does not require more sunlight. It needs only 2 to 3 hours sunlight every day, but we have to place it such that it can get the sunlight.
4. Pests?
1. What are the common diseases it gets? Like root decay, white flies, many are there like this?
There is Possibilities to get some common diseases. In the case of any diseases, we recommend “ Neem oil “. Neem oil can fight against the diseases and protects the plants.
Dilute the neem oil in water in the ratio 1:20 and spray on the plants. Spray this before noon or after evening.
5. Harvesting?
1. How many days Beetroots takes to grow from seed to harvest stage?
Beetroots will take 55 to 75 days to grow from seed to harvest. Till the harvest, we need to care the plant by providing the water, potting mix, and neem oil.
2. How to identify whether the Beetroots are ready for harvest?
When the top side of the leaves reaches 6 to 7 inches in the length, it is ready to harvest. You could see the Beetroot shooting up from the soil.
3. How to Harvest?
Just remove the beetroot from the pot by using the gardening trowel. Beetroots cannot generate again from the same plant, we have to sow the seeds again for next harvest.
Use within 6 months from the date of manufacture.
