Select a warm place to sow the seeds where there are enough sunlight and space for the plant to grow, start with a seedling tray later you can transplant it to a huge container or onto your garden patch in cause you have enough space around your place.
Prefer indoor planting by placing two seeds per tube of the seedling tray filled with potting mix. Moist the potting mix by dropping water and place the tray in a sunny spot so that it gets sufficient sunlight. It will take about 10-30days for the seeds to germinate during the process watering is a must. Once the plants in seedling tray reach about 2-5 inches transplant them to containers or on land.
Step 2: Choosing the pot/land and soil
When it comes to choosing pot/container rectangular one is better suited with a drainage hole which prevents plant damage in case of excess watering, say about 20 inches in depth and 20 inches in width of the container size is better. You can even grow in grow bags of the same size. Keep the container in a sunny spot. You can even make use of compound wall for the plant's support by tying the plants stem with threads.
Step 3: Watering and taking care till Harvest
Regular watering is a must as it is grown in summer make sure the plant doesn’t dry up, water twice a day. We recommend you to use coco peat potting mix as it holds moisture content for a long period it works similar to a sponge. At times of rain, water every five days depending on the plant as the rain water flows into the plant directly. Avoid over-watering and under-watering and don’t let the plant get dried and nor water should stand around the plant which weakens the stems of the plant.
Once the plant reaches about 5-15 inches, keep trimming the tips don’t over trim. The basic idea behind trimming is it produces flowers and fruits faster and in number.
Around 3-4 months from the day of sowing snake gourds are ready for harvest, Cut off or pluck the fruits when they are tender say in green color as they re-grow, cut it before it overripe. Approximately a single healthy plant produces 12-14 fruits or more.
